Our little one desperately needed some winter pj's and loathe as I am to go to the mall I decided to make him a pair using thrifted items.
I cut into a thrifted sheet using pattern pieces from two different patterns, thinking they'd be done within the afternoon but cutting was as far as I got. Distractions a plenty, the pj pieces sat there taunting me.
Seeing our little one running around in pj's that were now ankle freezers with a 3/4 sleeve gave me the budge I needed on the weekend to set aside some sewing time. The top was a little time consuming but the pants were a cinch to make. I am rather pleased with how they have turned out and thrilled that they cost less than $1 in thrifted bits and pieces. I think a few more pair are in order.
Do you reuse thrifted items for things other than their intended use?

They are gorgeous! And what a cute model. I've also am keen to make some for my kids - although I was thinking of just making the pants and then appliquing a plain store bought top. I have a bit of second hand flannelette and also some thrifted sheets - don't think mine will look as good as yours though!
oh i love them tammi! he is soooo cute. just wanted to stop by and say a big thank you for all of your blog and instagram love lately. please don't think i've forgotten about returning that beautiful favour you did for me with the j-love...i just want to grab a few extra treats from europe to throw in your parcel. you're an amazing woman/mother/blogger friend you know. xxx
I just love your sewing Tammi. I am yet to be so darn versatile but you are inspiring me. What a cute pattern. And yellow. Love the happiness of yellow. xx
They must be the cutest, most stylish little pj's I've seen for little boys, Tammi. I bet they are incredibly comfortable on him. I made some long sleeve nighties a few years back for Julia out of thrifted sheets. She still wears them now despite being almost three quarter sleeve length now. Afterall you can't get more comfy than wrapping them in a sheet :)
Oh my! They are adorable on your wee one, well done! I feel the same, hate paying for 'new" when I can make things form old, but havent been brave enough to make the tops yet!
I love these Tammi. Don't think my skills are up for the tops yet, but the pants I could manage I reckon. Gorgeous!
These look gorgeous Tammi. Well done. xxoo
Only $1! That's amazing Tammi. And they're so cute! (So is that little model!) xx
Love the fabric! they look so cosey! My mum makes Pete's winter pjs :) x
I always made the girls PJs and the upside was that it gave me plenty of buttonhole practice which was always a bit of a psyche out for me. I think the PJs you make yourself are really cosy and quality and worth the effort.
The days when I used to sew my own clothes are a distant memory....but my aim it to learn to quilt...on the sewing maching of course. Cute PJ's by the way.

They look great Tammi...i tend to take the easy way out on pj tops but that design looks great...and i think that colour really suits him!
You're so clever Tammi, these PJ's are adorable and they look so cosy. How fantastic that they cost less than $1! You should be super impressed with those efforts. And I love the pics of little Kaizer, he is too beautiful for words xo
These are amazing! I love the way they turned out! :)

these look like some seriously comfy pjs. i am so sick of my boys in sickly bright licenced jammies. will have to add flannie sheets to the oppie list I think. I love that top pattern too, haven't sewn pjs because the whole collar things scares me. and to your question? yes. have a lovely day ;)sarah
They are SO cute! Love them! I really like that there is no collar on them too! My little man harte the collars on his pj's he says they are attacking him all the time :)
Gorgeous, Tammi. What a bargain and so very, very cute. Have I mentioned how clever you are? ;) x
What cute PJs! My jaw dropped when I saw that photo above as I've been hunting for a pattern like that as I'm contemplating making a dressing gown for Grace. The only ones I seem to be able to find in shops are the 'robe' style so I figure if I made my own, I can add buttons or something. Have you tried the robe pattern in your one above yet?
I often go to op shops on the hunt for specific things to repurpose - I have a few things in mind at the moment that I'm searching for to alter to make dress-up costumes for Grace.
Just saw your comment on my blog... we used to have tiles too but had them pulled up a few years back and replaced with our floorboards. It's amazing how much warmer they are. As for the rug, it's been one of our best decisions - I was hunting for something with more pattern but in the end decided that with two little ones and endless spills and dirt, it wasn't worth me getting an expensive rug for now and so our 'rug' is actually an edged piece of carpet. I went to a carpet place, stood on lots of samples to find one that felt nice underneath my feet, gave them our dimensions and they edged it all nicely - it's perfect, inexpensive and easy to remove stains etc. from :)
Fantastic, the fabulous fabric, skilled sewing & uber adorable model!! Do i spy knitted or crocheted booties too?? Love it, love Posie
Tammi your little boy is very lucky to have you make him these gorgeous pj's, I just love them. This series of photos are very cute too. It's been a while since I've done much thrifting sadly. I did have lots of fun making some spoons into plant labels though, I should make some more for me;) xx
Oh heck yes...what would thrifting be if not repurposed....love the jammies and the cute little guy in them... xxx
Hooray! That's so very cool. $1 super cute Mama made pj's are so much better than store brought ones (especially those covered in Disney branding!) :)
Nice design, you can change colors such as black instead of yellow. It is good and suitable to child. God bless you
